This is a complex topic in some respects. First, our diet is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, since our body is not who we REALLY are. However, we have chosen Earth incarnations in Homo Sapiens bodies, and if we wish to have our temporary instrument of interface with the physical world function in a manner that provides minimal discomfort and optimal length of incarnation, then there are certain things to consider. These will be discussed here.
First, while original Earth humanoid bodies were reportedly well-suited for a vegan diet, it is apparent from information acquired from many sources that various "extraterrestrial" factions have been involved in re-engineering humanoid races on our planet. These alterations, along with adaptations to environmental circumstances, have created an omnivorous creature, with a variety of individual variations in dietary needs. Generally, a balanced, "NATURAL" diet will help keep people's bodies functioning well, provided there is no major energy imbalance/blockage on a non-physical level that is manifest through the physical body. Of course, such energy issues are common, and people with these issues typically need to pay extra attention to their diet and lifestyle to maintain physical health, since psycho-energetic issues often make one more vulnerable to the effects of an un-natural or imbalanced diet and environmental hazards. Nutritional needs vary from person to person, and the R.D.A. values (recommended daily allowance) provided by the U.S. Government are a base level that will prevent severe symptoms of malnourishment in most people. However, most people will develop moderate nutritional imbalances on typical diets, including diets that meet 100% of recommended values. Some people will develop more serious symptoms unless they follow specialized diets or take certain supplements. The more "natural" a food product is, the more likely it is to have subtle energy properties that enhance and harmonize with one's own bio-energetic system. Humanity has been existing in an environment using substances existing in nature for millennia, only becoming inundated with artifically synthesized products in the last century. It should not be hard to understand how this situation presents significant challenges to human health. However, the network of consciousness that creates and regulates the body must be able to act upon fields of information to carry out processing of whatever stimuli the body is presented with. Variations in how these systems of consciousness function are fundamental to our being, and therefore there can be a negative response to anything, as well as an ability in many individuals to successfully handle stimuli that would trigger health disturbances in others. Awareness and balanced practices can help boost health, while extremes of carelessness or restrictiveness can perpetuate the polarized patterns of consciousness they reflect, leading eventually to physical disturbances and illnesses.
Presently, available empirical data and clinical reports suggest that a well-balanced vegan (no meat, dairy, or eggs) or vegetarian diet is often at least temporarily beneficial for one's overall health, especially when used to cleanse or detoxify. This is probably because the effects of eating excess commercial meat and dairy products are generally more damaging than any potential hazard of eating no meat or animal foods. A diet with animal foods will tend to create more toxins in the body, produces more acidity in the body, and can potentially lead to pH imbalance, especially when combined with excess sugar, food additives, drugs, and psychological stress. Most processed foods currently contain refined sugar or artificial sweeteners, as well as hydrogenated oils, processed cow's milk components, and other compounds that are documented as contributing to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or other ailments. A vegan diet can completely meet nutritional needs if properly balanced and/or supplemented, while a carnivorous [meat only] diet is more likely to lead to malnutrition, and places additional stress on the body [it's not a coincidence that there are plenty of people promoting a vegan lifestyle but far fewer pushing a meat only diet]. If I were to discuss this using a computer metaphor, I'd say that humans are omnivorous with varying patterns of programming, with plant foods being suited to a base level of programming, making them most suited to use when the bio-energetic system is malfunctioning (like when your computer boots up in "Safe" mode and you can run only a limit range of programs). Programming comes from various genetic factors (such as the blood-type system described by the author of "Eat Right For Your Type"), as well as subconscious patterns influenced by one's incarnational history. Thus, there is no particular diet or system that would work ideally for everyone, and even individual persons may harmonize with different eating patterns at different times in their life as their composite patterns of consciousness shift.
Reducing or eliminating animal foods may be especially helpful when acute or chronic illnesses are present, as the body typically needs increased nutrition with decreased stress. Natural health practitioners often place patients on temporary juice diets and needed supplements to help the body restore health and recover from dis-ease. While many people are comfortable and healthy on a vegetarian or vegan diet, others may feel more comfortable with a diet including meat. Some people have a seeming "need" for animal protein to maintain energy levels and cellular integrity in their bodies. Blood type is just one factor that could influence such a pattern. Even vegans do actually (whether or not they are aware of it) consume some non-plant materials, such as bacteria, worms, and insects. Nutrition involves the synergistic interactions of thousands of biological compounds, so eating a balanced diet of natural foods is most likely to be nutritionally supportive of one's health. Many popular diets are imbalanced in ways that can produce apparent short term benefits, yet will likely trigger health problems when sustained for lengthy periods. Keep in mind that the consciousness operating the body determines how the body processes and interacts with the substances that are ingested - each person is a unique assemblage of immeasurable patterns of consciousness that are engaged in the interactive process of life, so there is no perfect formula for an ideal "diet" or health plan - just many influences that can be taken into account based on identifiable patterns of common reactions between physiology and biological or chemical stimuli.
For spiritual growth, the key is to avoid and transcend addiction and preoccupation with physical desires, whether these desires be for foods, drugs, physical aggression, sex, or other activities. That doesn't mean abstaining from physical or sensory pleasures, it just means being able to choose to enjoy things without them having control over you. Think of this as working toward balance. Thus, limiting meat consumption may be helpful in reducing attachment to consumption of animals for energy/strength and reducing consumption of sugar can help in reducing the need for external mood boosters. Also, sometimes eating meat or sweets could assist persons who have developed overly restrictive attitudes and beliefs in self-denial (this would need to be addressed on a psychological level in concert with the actual diet/lifestyle activity).
However, for the spiritual purposes of higher selves, it is likely that the higher self will experience incarnations from a variety of types of dietary experience (primarily herbivorous, primarily carnivorous, omnivorous, health foods, junk foods, etc.). This is necessary, until a point where the higher-self "moves on" to experiences where these physical dietary issues are irrelevant. Everything in creation is an expression of consciousness, so each of us can consider that in some higher form of Self we are literally "stars," generating solar systems, galaxies, universes, and whatever else the Infinite Mind/Spirit can dream of!
Promoters of meat, dairy, processed foods, special diets, pharmaceutical products, and other things people are encouraged to consume often use spurious research to scare people into believing that daily use of their products or their approaches are either necessary for one's health or relatively harmless, as the reality about hazards of consumption of these products or attachment to certain approaches could ruin their livelihood, challenge their self-concept, and/or disturb their belief systems. If you choose a vegetarian diet or any other diet or lifestyle approach you may wish to check with knowledgeable professionals, such as physicians and nutritionists, to ensure that your diet is safe & nutritious for you. Whatever your diet, you may also want to take some supplements - what may benefit you would vary. I've personally benefitted from supplements such as blue-green algae, concentrated greens, enzymes, probiotic bacteria, energized/structured water, sea vegetation, vitamins, minerals, tonic herbs, and other nutritional and antioxidant products. These supplements typically can be used to help offset the increased load of emotional and biological stressors in modern civilization.
Eating many raw and organic foods usually provides significant health benefits, as these have more enzymes and active nutrients. Fresh, natural, organic foods are best for cellular health, and a predominance of vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and grains is generally preferable to eating lots of animal foods, as present humans are biologically much closer to being herbivorous than carnivorous. Also, foods are now generally contaminated with all sorts of pesticides and other environmental chemicals, so these accumulate up the food chain, and you will ingest a lot more if you eat lots of animals. Food contains more than chemicals - it provides subtle energies that are measurable and related to the concept of life force and quantum energy fields. Would your body prefer fresh apples or ones stored for years in a can? There are methods using consciousness and subtle energies to help "re-energize" foods and beverages that you may try (just don't try this on any fine wine!)
If you choose to use a moderate amount of animal products, here are some suggestions: Use organic, free-range meat and poultry products or wild game, and limit having meat at multiple meals. Have reverence for anything you eat (appreciate the plants and animals that provide their flesh for you to alchemically transform into the substance of your physical vehicle, knowing that your appreciation and positive intentions help transform what you consume into something that is in energetic harmony with your being). Use fresh, organic, raw or fermented milk products, preferably from goats, as many humans have sensitivities to cow's milk. Consume organic eggs from healthy, happy fowl. Use deep sea fish that are least likely to be contaminated with mercury or other biohazards. Remember that animal foods spoil very quickly, and therefore can be common sources of food poisoning. Pasteurization, irradiation, and other "modern" methods of preserving food diminish the biochemical and energetic benefits of food, while creating other potential hazards. These also fail to destroy some types of microorganisms, organisms that can wreak havoc in the bodies of people who have let their bodies become vulnerable.
There are lots of environmental hazards that individuals have little control over. Still, there are some that we CAN control. Get pure water, especially distilled, reverse-osmosis purified, ionized/energized water or spring water with minerals. Don't smoke or drink much alcohol [tobacco & alcohol have been used as sacred substances in traditional cultures, but now they are best known as drugs of abuse and addiction. The Native American peace pipes used natural tobacco for special occasions just as Western religious traditions have used wine for special occasions. Now these substances are contaminated with chemical additives and used as daily mood modifiers. Avoid vaccinations (read up on how they really affect the immune system and human energy system, and have yourself tested for sensitivity to a vaccine before getting the vaccine if you choose to do so). Avoid antibiotics when possible (and take probiotic supplements if you've had antibiotics). Get air filtration and/or ionization devices if you can afford to do so.
Lastly, make an effort to grow spiritually and deal with toxic emotions and memories that trouble you. Cleansing your physical body should be accompanied by similar efforts to cleanse and energize your emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies - the bodies that are more intrinsic to who you really are. Your physical body can be considered the manifestation of a holographic spectrum of conscious energetic fields creating the illusion of physical form via processing of in-formation. This "body" provides an interface for experiential interaction with the spectrum of conscious energies we call "The Physical Universe." This Universe is just a small fragment of the totality of existence, serving as a feedback system/matrix to provide experience for the Creator via the isolated (spirit) expressions of the Creator gathering the experiences in this particular system/field-matrix.

Here are some books that focus on "holistic" mind-body-spirit issues in maintaining health and well-being. It is indeed true that our body, our thoughts and emotions, and our spiritual growth and awareness all interact to determine our level of wellness. A problem can arise in any aspect of our being and affect the entirety of our being, so treatments are most effective when they incorporate ways of boosting our physical functioning (through diet, avoidance of chemicals/toxins, energy balancing, rest, exercise, etc.), our mental/emotional functioning (through relaxation, stress management, cognitive restructuring, therapeutic regression, support groups, catharsis, and other ways of restoring balance and positivity to our minds), and our spiritual functioning (through meditation, prayer, doing benevolent deeds, gaining spiritual knowledge, practicing yoga, reading profound holy scriptures and philosophies, etc.) If ALL these issues are properly addressed, then there is no disease or illness that can't be successfully treated. Unfortunately, few people are aware of what factors cause illness, and of what should really be done to restore and maintain health. Medical doctors are generally worse than laypeople in this regard, since they have misleading ideas about treating illness, and typically use treatments that are harmful to the body and actually are factors in causing illness. The medical-pharmaceutical industry benefits when people get sick and are not able to maintain health. They use the power of suggestion to foster illness, constantly warning us that we need to be examined in case we are developing an illness, telling us that many people suffer from an illness and that we should get their drug or treatment to prevent or treat said illness, warning us to get vaccinated against viruses (when it's our own emotional fear and physiological imbalances that allow microbes to overwhelm our immune system; if one virus doesn't start to infest you, another will due to your weakened immune system, which has been further compromised by having to cope with the pathogens and toxins in the vaccine!). Engage in a healthy lifestyle, learn how to heal yourself, be positive, and maintain faith in a higher consciousness that is eternal, and of which your soul is a part. These things are more powerful for keeping you healthy than any antibiotic or antiviral drug or chemotherapy agent. These drugs weaken you in the process of attacking microbes or defective cells, so you really need to take measures to strengthen your mind, body, and spirit.

* = some data that is presented as scientific is flawed, distorted, or fraudulent. There is much evidence and documentation showing how various industries contain widespread corruption, with falsified data, coverups, malicious and unscientific attacks on critics, bribery, conflicts of interest, and even murder, in their efforts to hide the truth and maintain their huge, unconscionable profits at the expense of naive, disempowered, and gullible members of the public. Pharmaceutical companies maintain a profit margin that is about triple that of most other industries, while they spend billions of dollars annually to market their products, providing propaganda to the public and physicians that overstates the effectiveness of their products, while grossly minimizing the potential hazards of using these products and ignoring the feasibility of natural healing approaches.
For instance, many drugs have been shown to have about half of their positive effects accounted for by the placebo effect (people getting better by merely receiving some inert substance that they think will help them). Drug companies rarely acknowledge this when marketing their products, yet this data really shows that about half of the patients could have been helped merely by the power of positive thinking! Of course, if this ever got out, I'm sure that drug manufacturers would start marketing pills that they claim will make you think more optimistically when ill. Meanwhile, many drugs and food additives have experimentally indicated dangers that are not revealed to doctors or the public. For instance, the artificial sweetener Aspartame has been shown to be carcinogenic (contributing to development of cancer), with many additional hazards which include links to neurological dysfunction, mental illness, and severe allergy/sensitivity reactions. The stimulant/ADD medication Ritalin has never been shown to be safe in any long term study, its long term effects on academic performance and behavior have not been established, yet there is clear evidence that Ritalin can trigger decreased appetite, sleep difficulties, addiction, hyperactivity, Tourette's Syndrome and nervous tics, brain shrinkage, and cancer in laboratory animals. Why are doctors prescribing this dangerous drug (or similar drugs) to nearly 10% of school age boys? Perhaps because they have been duped by the medical industry, and are too overworked or indoctrinated to exert time and effort to do REAL research and find the actual sources of the problem, and consequently the safer, more effective, nutritional/ecological, energetic/vibrational, and psychotherapeutic methods of treating the patient. Data consistently shows that many more people are killed or injured by prescription drugs and other medical treatments than by illicit drugs, auto accidents, shootings, or natural disasters. Yet, these abuses of humanity are sanctioned and protected by the agencies of the government. Do powerful interests in governments also sanction and protect more overt abuses against humanity, including terrorism, organized crime, narcotics trafficking, and divisive wars?! Follow the money and the associations of the global elites for answers...

By consulting the information and resource links presented here you accept responsibility for any choices or actions you engage in as a result of your research. Health care providers are legally and ethically obligated to obtain informed consent from their clients/patients before providing treatments. However, how can a patient be informed by a medical "professional" who is also uninformed? Thus, the notion of informed consent is not very meaningful in practice, since few practitioners have much knowledge of treatment alternatives or of the scope of risks associated with many treatment interventions. Consequently, both health care professionals and their clients are advised to seek out information and educate themselves rather than just following the practices and beliefs that are fed to them by a corrupt industry. We are all in the process of learning things on Earth, so the variety of information and ideas that you may be exposed to represents an opportunity.
